Ice Cream Play (1)

The Butterflies explored ice cream messy play. They used a variety of ice cream scoops and spoons to dig into the hard texture and scoop out ice cream. It took physical skill to master pushing the scoop into the texture and children managed to fill bowls and cones with the ice cream. Further physical skill was used to add toppings as bottles were squeezed and sprinkles sprinkled in a pincer grasp strengthening muscles to support writing skills. The children explored the texture of the ice cream, rubbing it between their hands and using various descriptive words to describe the texture such as cold, melting, wet and runny. Children noticed their hot hands made the ice cream melt quickly and excitedly rubbed their hands together.
