The Ponies have been exploring shadow tracing. Drawing with light and shadow was a great way to engage the children in a mark making activity. Shadow drawing helped children to recognise and understand several important concepts in physics. By tracing around their chosen objects, children may start to notice that as the sun moves, the shadow moves too. Children grasped the pencils in a pincer grip in their dominant hand and used increasing skill in pencil control to attempt to trace along the shadow on the paper.
