The children have been supported in developing an understanding of the Holy Month of Ramadan over the past month and concluded this with the celebration of Eid ul Fitr this week. They have been learning and sharing what they know already about the Muslim community and learning about the Islam religion using information books and fiction stories to learn about Ramadan and Eid cultural traditions. Children were able to handle prayer mats and learn about when and how Muslim people pray. The children learnt about fasting during the holy month of Ramadan and made food to break the fast in the Ramadan kitchen. Children tasted different foods used to break the fast such as dates. Children excitedly helped our chef Iris make traditional foods for our Eid feast and children enjoyed eating together and socialising for a traditional Eid lunch. All children helped make decorations for Eid to decorate the room and table for our Eid lunch.
