The Horses took advantage of a particularly rainy day and went outside to collect rain water. The children collected a variety of different sized metal containers and bowls and laid them out to fill with rain water. The children listened to the tap tap on the containers as the rain water dripped and the children made predictions about which container would fill with more water the fastest. Testing their ideas and discussing each others votes.
Once the containers were full the children explored the water by tipping and poring the water into measuring cylinders and exploring this with scales. The children explored the capacity of full and empty containers through trial and error. Using mathematical language such as full and empty.
