This week, the Grasshoppers had a delightful time creating a delicious autumn treat: pumpkin pie! All the children joined in various parts of the cooking process. They did a fantastic job cutting the pastry to size and used their knives safely to create squares, which they then placed into a baking pan. Next, they filled the pastry with rice to partially bake it, preventing the filling from soaking through.
Once that was done, the children helped make the pie filling by mixing together pumpkin purée, oat milk, cornflour, and a blend of pumpkin spices, including cinnamon, ginger, ground cloves, and allspice. They took turns whisking the ingredients together in a large bowl.
Finally, the children assembled their pies by filling the crusts with the yummy mixture before baking them in the oven. At tea time, everyone enjoyed tasting their delightful creations!
