Over the past 2 weeks the children have taken part in the life cycle of a chick science experiment. The children had the opportunity to watch as eggs from the incubator and make predictions about what might be inside. The children remembered the past experience of hatching ducks and compared the size of the eggs. The children were able to watch first hand as the chicks began to hatch from the egg. We talked about how long the chicks had to stay in the incubator and when they could be moved to the cage and brooder. We taught the children that they needed the brooder to stay warm. The children talked about what the chicks would eat and had a turn at feeding the chicks. As the chicks grew bigger and stronger the children were able to handle and pet them carefully.
