The Butterflies explored the creative imaginative play activity of making 'flower soup'. The children used a variety of natural materials including different types of flowers, petals, leaves and stems along side water and dried flowers to create their imaginative soup. The children used a range of mathematical skills to make their soup including filling and emptying containers, tipping and pouring and exploring weight and capacity as well as using mathematical language such as full and empty. The children used pestle and mortars to grind and crush the flowers, talking about the smell and using their senses to explore the smell. Ingredients was added to large bowls to create the flower soup!
