The Ladybirds explored the sensory activity of making fairy potions as part of our fiction and fantasy theme. Children used potion bottles to fill and empty with different sensory materials and ingredients such as scents, flavours, powders and liquids exploring capacity as they were filled and emptied from the potion bottles drawing on early mathematics skills. The children excitedly added ingredients together shaking the potion bottle and watching as powders turned to liquids. Textures were rubbed on hands and children used describing words such as wet. New vocabulary was introduced from practitioners as they scaffold children's language development.
