Queens Nursery celebrated Chinese New Year the year of the rabbit. The children explored a wide range of Chinese themed activities including creating Chinese lanterns, exploring Chinese food in both role play as well as food tasting of items such as prawn crackers. Chop sticks were explored in food as children explored the physical skill of mixing food and picking up food with the sticks. The children also explored Chinese symbols and took part in an activity to create their own interpretation of the symbol with paint. Chinese cooking was undertaken and children enjoyed a traditional Chinese lunch. The celebrations ended with a large dragon dance parade. Children worked in collaboration to move in sync and follow instructions to create the parade. Children were enthralled in the activity exploring ribbon dancing, musical instruments and costumes that sustained the children interests and promoted talk and curiosity about the Chinese culture and this celebration.
