The Butterfly room took part in an exciting risky play activity to use hammers to crush the chalk. The skilled practitioners spoke to the children first about being very careful with the hammers and not running near he activity. The children excitedly took the hammers with practitioner support and showed enjoyment at being trusted to use the adult resource.
The children manipulated the hammers in a palmer grasp using both one and two hands to move the hammer up and down to crush the chalk. Hand eye co-ordination was explored as some children held the chalk in place with one hand and used the hammer in the other to smash the chalk.
