The Grasshoppers went on their fortnightly visit to Queens Road allotment.
They were able to look at and review the crops and plants they had planted and cared for previously.
The plants had grown so much and the children were able to talk about the growth and changes over time.
It was very exciting to see various fruits and vegetables that had grown under the ground and on top of the ground.
They were able to harvest vegetables to bring back to nursery to cut up and taste.
When looking at the plants the children saw multiple insects and minibeasts and were able to create their own tin bug hotels.
They collected soil, leaves and items to add to the bug hotels.
Making habitats they thought the insects would enjoy.
They were able to locate ladybirds, slugs and grasshoppers.
On the return to nursery the children washed the beetroot, cucumbers and squash and cut them up.
They explored the inside of the vegetables before tasting them and adding them to the tea menu for the day.
Cooking and eating with what they harvested themselves.
