World numeracy day
For world numeracy day we introduced quantity, numbers and colour names. We encouraged number names whist counting the coloured people out loud for the babies to hear, and we used number blocks as visuals, this promoted early numeracy within the room. To further engage the babies, we used one of their favourite textures which is sticky spaghetti, this enabled us to further promote communication with colour names and words to describe textures and actions as they explored the coloured spaghetti
In preschool, for numeracy day, the children had to throw beanbags and try to get them to stick! The children then counted how many beanbags there were on each and compared them. They said “this one had three and this one only has 2” The children did really well and enjoyed the activity.
