Washing Fun 

This week in toddler room the children helped by doing their own washing. The children did a focus activity where they looked at the different products that are used to clean the clothes. The children smelt the different products and then used their fine motor skills to pour the detergent into the bowl. Some of the children helped by mixing the powder into the water and saw what happened when the powder mixed with the water. The children used their fine motor skills to wash the clothes in the water by scrubbing the clothes to become nice and clean. We used language such as “soapy”, “dirty”, “clean” and “washing”.

We then extended this activity by getting the children to operate the washing machine by placing the dirty laundry into the washing machine. The children then scooped up the powder and placed it into the draw and then operated the machine by turning the on button. Once the washing was done the children then helped by placing the washing on the drying rack.
