The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This week in the toddler room we learned all about the life cycle of a caterpillar. We focused on the Very Hungry caterpillar story. We enjoyed reading and listening to the story while exploring flash cards and props as we went along. It was a great way to learn about sequences through counting and the days of the week. For our first activity we went on a caterpillar hunt in soil. We had to find pasta caterpillars. We used a variety of tools that helped promote our fine motor skills and movements. We searched using tongs, spades and our fingers to find the caterpillars and put them into a cup. As we found the caterpillars we incorporated counting into our play comparing how many each of us found. We then extended our activity by creating our own caterpillars. We used potatoes to make marks and prints to create our own representation of the very hungry caterpillar. For our final activity we turned into beautiful butterflies through role play and dancing. We used materials to create our beautiful wings and danced and flapped along to some soothing yoga music that we create our own movements to. This was a lovely way to finish off the week and express how we are feeling through movements. Great job toddlers.
