The Human Body!
This week, preschool focused on their development in STEM. They focused on the human body. Specifically the organs and the skeleton! The children learned all about the different functions of each organ. We started by asking them if they knew about any parts of their bodies. Some children answered “head”, “hands” and “feet”. They were then asked if they knew what helps them to breathe, which one child said “lungs”. Preschool watched a video explaining the different organs and their functions. Preschool also learned about the importance of the skeleton and how it protects the different organs in your body. They then put this learning into action and did lots of different activities to showcase the different organs and parts of the body. The children first created an x-ray of their hands by tracing around it on some black card, then gluing cotton buds to represent the bones! One child said “it looks like a skeleton!” We also explored how the lungs and heart works through the use of balloons. They took it in turns to blow some balloons to show how lungs expand and contract. The children put their hands on their chest and breathed in and out to feel the difference within their own bodies. They also observed how a heart beats and learned about pulses. To demonstrate this the children felt their own pulses before and after doing some physical exercises. They said that their heartbeats were a lot faster after exercise and showed the beats through clapping. To further extend on this topic the children created their own hearts and lungs with play dough! The children were all very engaged in learning more about themselves and their bodies and were very active in all the different activities! Great job Preschool!
