This week in the toddler room our room topic has been the Gingerbread Man. We have really enjoyed listening to the story with individual props, naming the characters in the story and using our gingerbread man to run the pathway. We enjoyed chanting “Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man”.
We then extended this by creating a language enriched tuft tray full of props and textures from the gingerbread man story. The children were able to challenge themselves by using the tweezer to collect the gingerbread man’s buttons counting them one by one.
Finally we created our own gingerbread people during a baking activity, we thoroughly enjoyed smelling ingredients and seeing if we could distinguish between them and find differences. We used our gross motor skills to create the gingerbread dough and waited patiently in the oven for it to bake, getting the adults to check on it to make sure it didn’t run away!
