The Bug Collector
This week preschool investigated a variety of bugs and insects. The children had first read one of their chosen library books named, ‘the bug collector’, which was about a little boy collecting bugs from his grandad’s garden but later realizing that the garden was no longer flourishing because of the absence of the bugs. This fueled the children with some knowledge that most bugs play an important role in our nature life, and that they can be helpful towards the growth around us. The children also learnt bug facts like a lady bird has as many spots as their age.
To extend on this activity, preschool engaged in some painting of bugs like butterflies and ladybugs. In the first activity we used sponges with string wrapped in the middle of it, forming a butterfly shape for the children to then dip it into a bowl of vibrant paint and paste it out onto the paper. This brought out great results and engaged the children so much, they loved doing it altogether as a group. Another activity was creating ladybirds, the children dipped a cup into red paint to form the body and used their fingers to dip into black paint to make their spots. The children really cooperated with this weeks a topic and found it really intriguing.
