Stick Man, oh Stick Man!

Stick Man, oh Stick Man!

For our topic life cycle, we explored the story of Stick man! We began by reading the story as a group and observed our own growing Stick insects afterwards! We learnt about how the stick insects hatch from a tiny egg and eat bramble leaves, and also can camouflage very well from predators.

Next was onto the fun part in making our very own portraits using sticks and twigs from our garden. The children had the chance to re create their own stick person, counting how many pieces of twigs they would need for arms, legs, bodies etc. and then with the help from myself we took on some ‘risky play’ using the hot glue gun to help glue our pieces in place. Whilst using the hot glue gun, we spoke our hazards, safety and where to correctly hold the glue gun to ensure we kept safe at all times.

The children enjoyed this activity and loved recreating their very own picture of themselves as a stick person! Preschool also listened excellently whilst following instructions to ensure we stayed safe when taking part in risky play. Well done everyone!
