National Soup Month
On Monday as part of national soup month the children enjoyed making their own soup with Bernie. The children enjoyed looking at the different vegetables that were used to make the soup. The children enjoyed using their fine motor skills to cut up the vegetables. The children used words such as “carrot, cutting and soup”. The children then helped wash the vegetables and place them into the pot. We then sent the soup to the kitchen to let it cook.
We then extended this activity by doing a 3 part sequence. The first part is the children digging up the vegetables in the soil. We linked this to the Peppa pig book ‘ Peppa’s vegetable garden.’ The children enjoyed digging up the soil and finding the vegetables. The children used words like “digging” as they were digging up the vegetables.
For part two the children then enjoyed washing the vegetables in the tray. They used the sponges to get all the dirt away from the vegetables. The children thoroughly enjoyed washing the vegetables. For the last part the children enjoyed transferring the washed vegetables into the black tray to cut up their vegetables and role play making their own soup. The children cut up their vegetables and role played making their own soup.
The children then enjoyed their soup for tea.
