Mid-Autumn Festival
This week in preschool, the children learned and explored the Mid-Autumn Festival that is celebrated in China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand! The children watched a short video outlining how it is celebrated. The children said, “look lots of lanterns” and expressed that they wanted to make their own! Using their fine motor skills, the children folded coloured card in half and cut strips along the paper. They each designed their own lanterns by drawing lots of different patterns on them. The children really enjoyed making the lanterns and used it whilst listening to some festival music!
To further extend the festival the children made their own moon cakes, which are traditional pastries eaten during the festival. The children made their own version of mooncakes by blending cream cheese and biscuits and some flour! The then used mooncake moulds to make them look like moons! After baking them in the oven, the children had a little taste of the mooncakes and said they were “delicious”, “good” and “sweet”! Great job Preschool!
