Marshmallow Visits the Opticians
In preschool we have got a new weekend bear called ‘Marshmallow’. The children would be taking Marshmallow the bear home and would love to spend some time with the families. To introduce marshmallow to our new topic ‘people who help us’, we took marshmallow to Specsavers to visit the opticians. Marshmallow came on the trip with the preschoolers and enjoyed visiting the opticians. Marshmallow went inside the opticians and the children helped marshmallow pick up the different glasses. One child said, “look pink glasses”, another child said “there are lots of different glasses”. We then extended on this activity by the children making their own glasses out of pipe cleaners.
In our groups we began making the glasses intending on using them in our very own eye test, presenting a mixture of different letters both uppercase and lowercase onto the whiteboard for them to face. We all sat in a circle and went round taking turns to wear the glasses whilst covering one of our eyes to represent the real lens machine you’ll find in the opticians, and had an amazing try at pronouncing all the letters that were written in variety of sizes in rows top to bottom, and even if they wasn’t so sure of how to say it they’ll still have a go.
