Magnetic Tile Colour Shadows

This week to continue with our topic of light and dark, we extended and set up an activity based on one of the children’s keen interests `the magnetic tiles’. The children had a look at the magnetic tile colours using the torches shining through them and observed the shadows they made on the ground whilst the main room lights were on. “It’s too light” said one child, “maybe we need to turn the lights off?” another child said.

We then turned the lights off in the preschool room and our predictions were correct, the shadows were so much better! The children enjoyed looking at all the shapes and colours that were reflected onto the floor by using the torches. We looked at how we could make the shadows bigger or smaller just by moving the torches closer or further away from the magnetic tiles, and how it affected the colour of the shadow.

Preschool thoroughly enjoyed this activity and definitely enjoyed learning another way in which we can play with the magnetic tiles! Well done Preschool!
