Life Cycle of A Frog
This week in the toddler room we continued our life cycle theme by exploring the life cycle of a frog. To begin we had to do some research. We explored our ICT skills by looking up a life cycle chart on the computer and printed it out with the help of our adults. We learned that frog eggs are called frog spawn and you might see some gathered at the edge of a pond. We then explored some texture trays that looked similar to frog spawn. Our first tray was edible and it had jelly and raisins in it. The second tray had some chia seeds that had been left in water to create a slimy and gloopy texture. We used our hands and fingers to explore the textures exercising our fine motor skills. We then further extended our learning and play by exploring our own frog pond themed tray where we looked for each part of the cycle. We explored tadpoles, froglets, frogs and some “frog spawn”. As we explored we linked our play to the 5 little speckled frogs song lining our frogs on a log and making them jump into the pond. We also sang one of our favourite songs “The little green frog”. Throughout our play we were able to explore new vocabulary and extend language through new words like “tadpole”, “Frog”, “Frogspawn” and “Froglet.” We really enjoyed linking maths through counting and songs. Lovely exploring and learning this week toddlers well done.
