Horse and Carriages
This week to continue with our transport topic we decided to learn about how in the olden days, people used the horse and carriage as a form of transport to get around. Using our ICT skills, we used the touch and tilt to research and gain more knowledge around the whole concept of the horse and carriage.
The children loved to see and look at the different ways people used to travel and how the horses would help to pull the carriages along. “That might be heavy” one child commented, and another asked “How do they get down from the carriage? There are no steps.” The children in preschool showed so much interest and were very intrigued in discovering there were more forms of transport other than an aeroplanes, cars and boats etc. We also used this as an opportunity to research how cars used to look in the olden days too.
To extend on their interest into the horse and carriages, we decided to create our own from recycled materials we already had in our junk modelling. The children chose a butter container for the carriage, some lids for the wheels and a stick to attach the wheels to the carriage. We then created some holes to poke the stick through and a few more holes to attach the ribbon for the reigns of the horse. Finally we attached one of our toy horses and used our happy land people to role play as the people inside the carriages.
Well done preschool for all of your extensive learning this week and showing so much interest!
