Getting ready for school.
This week on Tuesday we took a visit to Shacklewell primary school to meet the teachers and see the school. We took a short walk from nursery to Shacklewell school, and once we got there we were greeted by one of the teachers. She took us through the school and showed us the big hall which is where we will be having our lunch. She showed us the red trays which our lunch is served on and told us that we carry our own lunch back to the tables. Preschool enjoyed looking around the hall and said the tables were ‘very big!’ We then walked over to the reception classes and met all the children and teachers in reception. We had the chance to play in the classrooms, in the garden and before we left, we even had the chance to take part in a music lesson with one of the music teachers. Preschool had such a lovely afternoon and enjoyed exploring their new school environment.
When we came back to nursery, the children couldn’t wait to tell all their friends what they had got up too. We then took this opportunity to extend on their nursery visit by making letters to their new teachers to tell them a little bit about themselves, pretending to take a register of who is in today or not, marking it with a tick or cross, and dressing up in some school uniform as this is something they had observed when visiting the primary school. Preschool children enjoyed dressing up in the uniform and even used Carolines self-registration display to let everyone know they are at nursery today! The children also enjoyed getting their own food from the trolley just like at the primary school!
