Germs, germs disappear

Germs, germs disappear!

This week we have been focusing on our health and hygiene and how we can get very sick if we are not washing our hands properly with soap.

In line with it being science week, we used a special activity to help us demonstrate how the germs stick to our hands when we don’t use soap. Using the pestle and mortar we grounded up our own black peppercorns, enhancing on our gross motor skills, then sprinkled it into our water bowl. For the next step we dipped one finger into the fairy liquid and saw how much the ‘germs’ stuck to their fingers.

The children were very amazed and were intrigued to see the next step of our experiment. We then dipped a clean finger with no peppers into some soap and then back into the pepper water and watched as the pepper dispersed around to the edge of the bowl. The children enjoyed seeing this reaction and we explained when we use soap whilst washing our hands this is what happens to the germs.

Well done preschool!
