Exploring Light and Dark

This week in the toddler room we explored our light and dark topic theme. To do this we did a variety of activities in the sensory room. For our first activity we explored magnetic shapes on the light table. We were able to see the colours mixing and reflect off the tiles as we created different materials. We then explored light using torches, light wands and light boxes in the dark sensory room. We were mesmerized by the colours and lights and enjoyed exploring different ways we could move the light around the room with the torches. To further extend this we looked at how to create shadows by moving light in different positions to see shadows reflect on the wall and floor. We experimented with our small world animals positioning the torches at different angles around them to see their shadow appear. We explored moving around to see if we can make them bigger or smaller and enjoyed watching the animal’s shadows moving around. We then continued this on the floor to see how tall we could make the shadows. Great job toddlers!
