This week to start off our new topic Materials, we looked into a recent interest of ours, being painting. The children have enjoyed painting recently, so we wanted to extend on this, linking it to our topic. We spoke about what can happen when we mix colours, how we can create new colours that we didn’t have before, and we then took this further and spoke about how we could create our own paint to use.
We researched different ways to create natural paints, or paints from things we had already, such as mud and paint, yoghurt and food colouring which was also taste safe, chalk and conditioner with water and lastly tea bags and coffee with water. The children had the chance to explore mixing the solutions together to create their own paints. We used a variety of different paint brushes and painting tools to then see the effects each ‘paint’ had on the papers.
Each table got to carry out their own experiments and once they had made their own pictures, we all got a chance to swap to another table to test out the other solutions. Preschool enjoyed this activity thoroughly and enjoyed making their own creations using the DIY paints! Well done Preschool!
