Diwali
Earlier in the week the children learnt about the Hindu light festival Diwali. We learnt in their tradition about their diva lamps and Rangoli patterns. The children used a light tray that included pictures of the patterns, lamps and henna. Covered with colored salt and shells on top, for the children to then reveal by using their fingers which also exercises their fine motor skills. Whilst they were revealing the patterns, they had to identify which pictures it matched stuck round the table. They enjoyed using their fingers, feeling the gritty texture of the salt, and creating their own patterns in the colours and light tray and comparing it to the Rangoli.
To celebrate Diwali in the toddler room we made our very own Rangoli prints. We painted some stencils and made colourful prints to create our own patterns like the Rangoli patterns we saw in the pictures. We then had our own celebration using colourful salt the felt like dust that we sprinkled and threw into our tuft tray focusing on our fine motor skills.
For Diwali the babies coloured some soda to create a taste safe powder paint consistency then we used some PVA glue to make some colourful Diwali collages.
