Diwali

Diwali

Babies

Babies celebrated Diwali by making Rangoli patterns from colourful rights. We explored mixing the colours together and making different patterns. We also explored lights and added the coloured lights and rice to bowls to make some lovely diva lamps. We had lots of fun exploring this festival and enjoyed looking at the bright colours and patterns we made as we played and explored.

Toddlers

On Monday the children celebrated the Hindu festival Diwali. The children sat down for circle time and listened to the story of ‘Rama and Sita’ being read to them. The children repeated words such as “Diwali”, “diva lamps” and “festival”. The children then looked at the different diva lamps and looked at the lights being lit.

The children then went over to the table to create their own rangoli design. The children used different coloured salt and used their fine motor skills to sprinkle the salt onto their paper. The children enjoyed making their own rangoli designs.

We also did a cooking activity in which the children made their own coconut Ladoo. The children looked at pictures on the internet and then made their own. They placed the dedicated coconut into their bowls and then added the condensed milk. The children mixed these together and then added food colouring to give it a red colour. The children used their sense of fast to try their coconut Ladoo and they enjoyed it.

“It was yummy”.

Preschool

On Monday the children celebrated the Hindu festival Diwali by sitting down for circle time and listened to the story of ‘Rama and Sita’ being read to them by Charlotte. The children were focused and engaged and enjoyed this story. To further celebrate this, we had Diwali themed activities such as candle holder making with clay, rangoli pattern making with colourful rice they could scoop, water paint dabbers to make pretty pictures and foam with difference colours they could mix to make patterns. In the water tray we had oily colourful water that they could pour into the clear water, the children really enjoyed exploring all of these activities and learning about the festival.
