Come shop with us!

Come shop with us!

This week for our blog, preschool had the opportunity to talk about where they shop with their parents/carers. To achieve this, we gathered in a big group to complete a tally chart of which shop was the most popular with our families. The children all had a chance to come up one by one and pick which shop they go to, and we added a tally to our chart. M&S and Aldi were a tied win, with 7 votes each, with the runners up being Asda with 6 votes and Sainsbury’s 4 votes, Tesco 3 votes, and Morrison’s with 1 vote. The children really enjoyed taking part in their voting, and this helped promote the British Values of democracy.

To extend on this activity, later preschool took part in another circle time, where we explored money and currency. We spoke about how many countries, such as Spain, Turkey, Hong Kong, Macau, China and South Korea, where the teachers have visited, use different currencies, and when you visit you cannot use UK currency of the GBP.

To showcase this, we used real money to show the children the difference between each currency, and explained money is used to buy things. One child said “My mummy buys my toys with her money for me” someone else said “I buy chocolate crepes from Aldi” and another said “Mummy gets surprises at Tesco”.

The children were very engaged throughout the activity and enjoyed exploring the shops, and different currencies from around the world. Well done Preschool!
