Chinese New Year
Preschool did lots of different activities to celebrate Chinese New Year! The children started with reading books about Chinese New Year, they learned about lots of traditions! They used paint, pom poms and tissue paper to create their own dragon and added red material to the back! Preschool, then took their dragons to the garden and did a little parade! They listened to music and played different instruments. Preschool also played with a noodle tuff tray, they had a go at using chopsticks and role played cooking it! The children then made their own noodle soup, using udon noodle, stir fry mix, spring onions, vegetable stock and coriander. They used their fine motor skills to chop the vegetables and added the different ingredients to the pot. All the children tried the soup and said that it was delicious.
Toddler room had a fun week celebrating Chinese New Year. We learned that this year is the year of the dragon! We made some dragon masks using paper plates and lots of craft materials. We were able to look at the Chinese dragons that can be seen in festivals and celebrations and create our own interpretations. We also explored our own dragon themed tuft tray with red and yellow rice. To finish off our week Patricia helped us to make our own vegetable spring rolls! We helped egg wash the pastry and add the ingredients to the middle of the pastry. We all used our fine motor skills to roll the pastry to create the spring roll. Then the best part tasting them. They were delicious!
