Building with numbers
The pre-schoolers explored numbers alongside construction this week, exploring a tuff tray. We added shaving foam, tools, blocks and unfix cubes to create a unique building experience alongside the number blocks. The children used their motor skills to explore the tray, scraping shaving foam over the blocks acting as cement and matching the number to tower built. The children discussed how the towers built with unfix cubes weren’t as tall and didn’t stand as steady as the towers made from bricks and this preference showed in their play. Though the children primarily used addition in this activity, there was discussion of subtraction when they wanted to make smaller towers, they decided it was easier to take some blocks away from existing towers to make these ones smaller! The pre-schoolers thoroughly enjoyed numeracy within this activity and showed great intuition and focus! Well done pre-schoolers.
