Australia Day (1)

Australia Day

Preschool

To celebrate Australia day in preschool we did a show and tell of different pictures and items from our friends who are from Australia! We looked at stuffed animals of a Bilby and a Platypus and pictures from one of our friends visit to Australia to show us real life pictures of animals in their environments. We then took to touch and tilt to learn more about Australia day. We then drew out the shape of Australia on the map and referenced the ipad to colour match where the out back is, land and the surrounding oceans including the great barrier reef, for this activity we scrunched up different shades of tissue paper to create the different areas on the map and glued them on. We then identified these areas, and tried to remember the different animals that lived there.

Toddlers

To celebrate Australia day the toddlers learned about Australian animals. We did some research using the touch and tilt table to help us learn about some of the different animals. We enjoyed hopping like kangaroos, climbing like a koala and crawling like an echidna. We were very interested in the echidna. We all thought their spikes looked like hedgehogs! To extend this further we continued exploring our curiosity about echidna and made our own playdough versions. We enjoyed moulding brown playdough and then adding spaghetti spikes to make it look like an echidna. Great job toddlers!

Babies

The baby room celebrated Australia day by exploring the Australian flag , we looked at various different pictures that related to Australia. The babies then had the opportunity to recreate the Australian flag and I must say the babies done an amazing job and took great pride in their creating their masterpieces.
