A Seed In Need

A Seed In Need

This week in the toddler room we have been focusing on life cycles. We learned about the life cycle of a plant through our A Seed in Need book. We learned about how a seed will grow into a beautiful flower. We planted our own seeds together in a large group tuft tray activity. We filled pots with soil using spades working very hard on our motor skills. We learned to use the back of the spade to pat and flatten the soil in the pot. We pushed our seed into the soil. We learned to add water to our seed to help it grow. We continued to water them every day to watch our seed grow into beautiful flowers. To further extend our interest in flowers we made some lovely flower potions where we were able to explore different parts of a flower. This enabled us to learn new vocabulary like ‘stem’, ‘petal’ and ‘leaf’. We explored mixing and using postal and mortar to mash our petals to create some lovely potions. We explored filling and pouring using lots of different bottles and created colours and bubbles through mixing.
