A Pop of Spring!

A Pop of Spring!

This week for our spring topic, the preschoolers got extremely creative with making some spring artwork for our display board.

We began by using the bottom of the bottles dipped into paint to create a flower and petals effect on the paper, with the children using their choice of spring pastel colours. The children enhanced on their gross motor skills by stamping the bottles onto their papers and were so excited to see what marks they had made, and also which new colours they had made when the colours had mixed. We then used some bubble wrap to give the same illusion of spring flowers on their papers, dipping the bubble wrap in bunches, into the paint and pressing it firmly, watching as we lifted it off the paper how it had created lots of tiny little circles and bubbles on the paper too.

Next we trailed a new technique using cooked and uncooked spaghetti in bundles, which we dipped into paint to paint with. The children enjoyed feeling and describing the textures of the spaghetti, some children said “look the spaghetti made spots on my paper!” another child said, “it’s so slimy with the paint”. This was a very fun and creative way to paint, which the children thoroughly enjoyed and the adults too!

To extend on our beautiful artwork further, we then used actual flowers as our paintbrushes to see which kind of effect this would have on our artwork creations. The children dipped either the stem or the flower buds into the paint, which both gave different ‘brush stroke effects’ on the paper. The stems gave more of a lines effect, where as the flower buds gave more of a brush stroke effect. The pre-schoolers also used dabbing motions and also swishing motions which in turn created such beautiful masterpieces!

Amazing work this week preschool, we have loved watching you create all of your beautiful artwork!
