Lions made strawberry jam this week for the whole nursery to have for breakfast with their toast. They first went and picked the few we had on our strawberry plants in the garden. They took them inside to wash and to look at and talk about how they grew, they then created their own strawberry pictures.
Lions then chopped the strawberries, added some lemon juice and slowly cooked the strawberries. Once the strawberries were cooled down they then transported into a jam jar. The children enjoyed the jam with their toast.
Cooking with the children helps to develop their cognitive development encourages the children's thinking, problem-solving and creativity. It also allows them the opportunity to use the knowledge they have and apply it by counting, measuring following a sequence following direction and cause and effect.
